A few months ago, Jeep teased an all-new, sixth-generation Cherokee. Now, we know the juicy details: it’ll be great on gas, much roomier than before, and start at under $40,000 in Canada.

The 2026 Cherokee will be anchored by a new hybrid powertrain. It starts with a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine under the hood, augmented by two electric motors and a 1.08 kWh nickel-cobalt battery pack. Total output comes in at a competitive 210 horsepower and 230 pound-feet of torque, sent to all four wheels through a CVT. Jeep hasn’t published exact fuel economy figures, but says we can expect a combined rating of 6.4 L/100 kilometres, and up to 800 kilometres on a full tank.

That’s even more impressive considering all 2026 Cherokees will come standard with Jeep’s Active Drive I four-wheel-drive system. As before, it’ll feature a rear axle disconnect, multiple drive and terrain modes, and a bit more off-road capability than the rest of the segment. Count on approach and departure angles of 19.6 and 29.4 degrees, respectively, a breakover angle of 18.8 degrees, and eight inches of ground clearance — though it’s worth noting the 2026 RAV4 and Forester Hybrids offer ever-so-slightly more, even in

Visually, the 2026 Cherokee trades its trades its predecessor’s blob-on-wheels styling for a blocky, squared-off look that’s simultaneously more in-keeping with the rest of the Jeep brand, and a more faithful callback to the original Cherokee. Its footprint is bigger as well, translating to much more headroom and legroom throughout, and about 30 per cent more cargo space than its predecessor. There’s a new cockpit layout as well, heavily influenced by its big brother.

Tech-wise, all Cherokees feature a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen running our perennial-favourite Uconnect 5 infotainment software. Also on board all Cherokees is a full suite of active safety and driver assists, including blind-spot monitoring, front and rear emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Goodies like a 360-degree camera system, a digital rear-view mirror, and a new feature that’s essentially Jeep’s take on Hyundai’s ever-clever Blind View Monitor will be available on upper-spec trims.

Pricing for the 2026 Jeep Cherokee ranges from $39,995 for the base trim, up to $53,995 for the range-topping Overland. The upper-crust Limited and Overland trims will be the first to hit dealers later this year, followed by the entry-level models in early 2026.
