At the LA Auto Show this year, Mini USA unveiled three new Mini Countryman variants that are fully redesigned, from the ground up. The models can be distinguished by an array different powertrain options, including a Mini-first hybrid choice, as well as other features.
The exterior of the new Mini Countryman is, by far, the most noticeable update. While it still retains distinct Mini elements, such as the tail lights, large single housing headlights and fascia configuration, its evident this is a redesign by the new body dimensions and proportions. An increase of cargo space and passenger room by 30 percent is thanks to the use of a high roofline and an adjustable trunk floor. New, lightweight 17 inch and 18 inch wheels are included, depending on the trim level opted for.
The Countryman will be available in the standard Cooper, Cooper S and ALL4 trim levels, as well as the new hybrid trim, the Cooper S E ALL4. Underneath the hood of the new Countryman, is the choice of a turbocharged inline-3 (in standard Cooper models), turbocharged inline-4 (in Cooper S models) and a hybrid, turbocharged inline-3 paired with an electric motor (in the new hybrid model). Mini claims the inline-3 options have 46% more torque than the predecessor, creating faster acceleration times.
The Mini Countryman Cooper S E ALL4 will most likely be the top trim level as well as the most technologically advanced Mini. Pairing an electric motor with the BMW inline-3 will increase driving range and further enhance fuel-cost savings, all while outputting 221hp. Through the use of an “e-rear axle” this version will be equipped to tackle less than ideal road conditions, making it a solid choice for Canada.Inside, a suite of features are available including a Panorama sunroof, leatherette upholstery, and sliding/reclining seats. ALL4 models come standard with heated seats, while Cooper S models come with bolstered sport seats. An available technology package includes an 8.8 inch touchscreen, with a revamped navigation system, as well as wireless charging and built-in bluetooth tags.
The redesigned Mini Countryman will be available in 2017, with the Cooper S E ALL4 model being available starting June 2017.
