Freshly redesigned and redeveloped, the 2017 BMW 5 Series progresses into its 7th generation.

This generation continues the tradition of the 5 series by offering a luxurious and executive appearance, paired with solid driving dynamics and a sporty flare. The outside has been fully redesigned to match its siblings and refresh the body style, while under the hood, two new engine options are available. The 2017 BMW 5 Series comes loaded with an array of new technology to enhance safety and provide the ultimate feeling of luxury.

The most notable change to the 5 series is the design. While the vehicle is slightly larger, key distinctions over the previous generation are the redesigned front and rear fascias. LED Adaptive headlights which are now standard, connect with the grille in a fashion similar to that observed on the 3 series. This helps emphasize the width of the car and establish its presence on the road. From the side, the vehicle looks similar in appearance to its more mature sibling, the 7 Series, as a result of similar design elements such as the vents located on the front fenders. A flowing roofline combined with a short front overhang accentuates the car’s sporty traits. Glancing to the back of the 5 series, new, tail lights extend towards the sides of the car aiding in the flow of the design. Tail pipes are now symmetrical and can vary in shape depending on the engine configuration.

As usual, an M Sport Package will also be available. This package will include an M Aerodynamic kit (front apron with larger air intakes, side skirt trim, a diffusor-style rear apron and an exhaust system with two rectangular tailpipes), black gloss exterior trim, lowered M Sport suspension and 19-inch M Double-Spoke Wheels with performance tires; along with various appointments made to the interior.

The 2017 BMW 5 Series will be offered in two engine configurations and be branded under two new model designations. If one opts for the 530i xDrive they can expect to find a 2.0 liter, Inline-4 that produces 248HP and 258lb-ft of torque. A second choice, available for those seeking more power, is the BMW 540i xDrive. 335HP and 332lb-ft of torque are produced from a 3.0 liter, Inline-6 that can launch the executive sedan to 100km/h in only 4.8 seconds. Power will be put down through an 8-speed BMW Steptronic transmission paired with xDrive. This generation of xDrive will be paried with BMW’s Integral Active Steering which will create a more precise and responsive steering feedback and increase the agility of the car.

Much of the interior amenities (such as massaging seats) and safety technology found in other 2017 BMW models trickle down into the all-new 5 Series. Some of this technology includes 3D Surround view and Perfect Parking function, Evasive Aid steering assistance, and new Driving Dynamics Control modes.

The 2017 BMW 5 Series will be available in Canada come February 2017.
