If one is in the market for a new compact sedan that has a little more get up and go, they may want to consider Nissan’s newest addition to their Sentra lineup. Announced at this years Miami Auto Show, the 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo comes loaded with new features including a powertrain that turns up performance a couple notches.
The current generation Sentra is already offered in a SR trim level which appoints the interior, exterior and wheels with a more sporty look. Backing the aggressive exterior, and new for this year, is a 1.6 Liter, 4-Cylinder Turbo engine which boosts power up to 188HP and 177lb.-ft. of torque. The turbo helps achieve precisely 64 horsepower and 52 lb.-ft of torque more than the standard SR engine. Maximum efficiency and performance is maintained with the Direct Injection Engine system.
Available transmission options include a 6 speed manual or the Xtronic CVT with gear ratios altered to provide more power through the rev range. Other components on the Sentra SR Turbo have been modified to create sportier handling. The suspension has been stiffened by 10 percent while dampers have been increased by 23 percent in the front and 50 percent in the rear. A revamped power steering helps deliver better low speed maneuverability and balance. Larger front and rear brakes help bring the vehicle to a stop while a reprogrammed Active Understeer Control system increase cornering performance.
Much of the exterior and interior design elements are carried over from the Sentra SR, including Siri Eyes Free Voice Recognition System. A Sentra SR Turbo Premium Package adds a 5.8 inch touchscreen with Navigation and Apps suite, leather appointing and additional driving safety features.
