Mercedes Benz has provided one more instance for use of the statement, “there’s an app for that” and it is for parking your car. This smartphone app won’t help you find a parking spot, but once you do have one, Mercedes’ currently developing app will physically park your car for you. Eager to show off their significant progress so far, the German Automaker has released a promotional video that includes actual demos. Featured in the video is a camouflaged 2017 Mercedes Benz E-Class prototype, a vehicle being promoted with a long list of autonomous capabilities.
To be clear, this new technology doesn’t turn your car into a remote control toy, the guidance of the car is determined by the vehicle itself, not the app. As demonstrated in the video, the user has the smartphone app to be able to stop the vehicle immediately and to initiate the parking maneuver. BMW, Audi, and Tesla have claimed to be in development of similar technology. As road-ready as this feature may seem from the video, there hasn’t been any indication of Remote Parking as an option in 2017 models.
