The all-new 2016 Chevrolet Malibu made an appearance at the New York International AutoShow.
This midsize sedan comes standard with a turbocharged 1.5-litre Ecotec four-cylinder engine, developing 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque.
Taking cues from the Chevy Volt, the Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid is expected to deliver a combined fuel economy of over 45 mpg (5.2/100km) with its 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine, pumping out about 182 horsepower. The electric power from the hybrid system comes from an 80-cell, 1.5kW lithium-ion battery pack.
The Malibu can also be equipped with a 2.0-litre turbo engine, which is estimated to pump out about 250 hp and comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
But what made most onlookers nod their heads in approval was perhaps its improvement in wheelbase and weight. The midsize sedan dropped nearly 300 pounds and is a whopping 101 mm wider than its predecessor, resulting in about 1.3 inches more legroom for rear passengers.
While on the topic of interiors, the all-new Malibu features satin chrome accents, perforated leather-appointed seating surfaces as well as wireless phone charging.
Finally, being the very family-oriented vehicle that it is, this guy also has a “Teen Driver” feature. Sorry kids, but this safety feature allows parents to restrict certain functions to “support safer driving and to view their kids’ driving statistics such as maximum speed”. Better start saving for that beat-up 90’s Honda Civic you wanted.
