BMW has M. Hyundai has N. Mercedes-Benz has … well, you get the point. Now, Rivian is officially joining the ranks with a performance-focused sub-brand of their own.
It’s called Rivian Adventure Development, or RAD for short, but we’ve met them before. You may recall Rivian participating in the Rebelle Rally, or their Pike’s Peak efforts; RAD was secretly behind those efforts as a skunkworks division. Only now, it’s official.

Rivian’s game plan with RAD is to use events like those in order to test performance features that will eventually find their way into their production vehicles. They’ve already unveiled their first feature called the RAD Tuner, allowing owners of quad-motor Rivians to fine-tune parameters like power output, torque bias, and when stability control and brake regen kick in.
It also adds Desert Rally and Hill Climb to the list of drive mode presets; visually, Rivian’s RAD models are characterized by bold liveries and unique wheels.
