As Porsche waffles over the fate of its all-electric Boxster and Cayman successor, Audi is doubling down on its version.
Audi previewed its version last year with the Concept C, a minimalist two-door electric sports car built on the same platform as Porsche’s electric 718 successors. But while Porsche is considering pulling the plug before they even arrive, according to Autocar, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner says they’re following through with their version, known internally as the C-Sport, regardless of what Porsche chooses to do with theirs.

“The delivery of the platform by Porsche is not in question,” Döllner wrote in an internal letter to employees, and that the development process between “Team Porsche and Team Audi” is actually “proceeding in good collaboration.”
But lately, softening EV demand on top of mounting development delays and costs is forcing Porsche to give its all-electric 718 successors a rethink. Porsche hasn’t made a final decision yet, at least, publicly, but the latest scuttlebutt suggests they’re looking into adapting some sort of internal combustion engine.
Audi, on the other hand, is doubling down their variant. The C-Sport is still on track to go into production next year; whether it’ll be joined by cousins wearing the Porsche crest is anyone’s guess.
