There’s something about pro athletes and cars. Is it because they can afford pretty much any car they set their eyes on, or is it the fact that they’re often adrenaline junkies? In all honesty, who cares? Just check out these collections and feel the envy burn deep inside you.
Yoenis Céspedes – Outfielder for the New York Mets
As a $100 million outfielder for the New York Mets, Céspedes has to be seen to be arriving at the training ground in style. And if there’s one thing this man knows about, it’s stylish cars. Céspedes has one of the most eclectic collections of cars you can imagine. He has a Polaris Slingshot, tuned Mercedes GLE 63, custom Lamborghini Aventador, Jeep Wrangler (just to keep it real), Ford F-250, and a Mercedes GL. But the absolute pearl in his collection has to be the Alfa Romeo 8C – one of only 500 in existence.
Céspedes may be enjoying his cars, but he’s having a bit of a nightmare on the field, or should we say the injury table. He’s possibly one of the most expensive Mets players to play so few games and his latest injury doesn’t look too good. But hey, at least he has some nice cars to drive to all those doctor appointments.
Cristiano Ronaldo – Forward for Juventus
He’s one of the most famous footballers in the world and a pure magician when he has the ball at his feet. But throughout his career, Ronaldo has developed quite the taste for expensive cars. His collection includes a Rolls Royce Phantom, Lamborghini Aventador LP-700, Aston Martin DB9, Audi R8, Ferrari 599 GTO, and a Bugatti Veyron. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The man has at least another 10 cars!
Cars aren’t the only thing that Ronaldo likes to collect. The man now has 700 career goals, has won the European championships with Portugal, and has an incredible 5 winning Champions League medals. His current team, Juventus see that particular competition as a bit of a bogey, so they signed the Portuguese forward in the hopes that he could break that hoodoo. They went out in the quarters last year, but are the first choice among many footballing experts to win the cup this season.
LeBron James – Forward for the LA Lakers
We know him as the all-around good guy who loves his bikes (he cycles to training) and as one of the greatest players to ever grace the NBA. But did you know that he’s also a massive gearhead. Yep, LeBron’s collection rivals even Ronaldo’s. He currently has a Lamborghini Aventador, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Hummer H2, Ferrari F430 Spider, Maybach 57S, and a 1975 Chevrolet Impala. Again, those are just the highlights.
We’re guessing LeBron has one hell of a garage for all of those cars and a trophy cabinet to match. This season, his Lakers side are tipped to go all the way and win the title and we’re struggling to find anyone that would begrudge the man one final NBA ring. At age 34, he can’t have that many years left in the tank.
Mike Tyson – Boxer (but you knew that, right?)
Boxers are often regarded as the athletes that like to show off their wealth the most, and who can blame them after all they go through in the ring. Mike Tyson though, once had a car collection that would make both Ronaldo and LeBron green with envy. It included a Cadillac Eldorado, Rolls Royce Silver Spur, Rolls Royce Corniche, Ferrari F50, Ferrari 456 GT Spyder, Lamborghini Diablo, Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster, Jaguar XJ220, Bentley Continental, and the list goes on and on.
Unfortunately for Iron Mike, his expensive tastes and poor business acumen led to his filing for bankruptcy in 2003. At that point he sold all his cars and pretty much everything else he owned. It must have been the worst feeling ever letting go of some of those amazing cars.
Floyd Mayweather – Boxer and moneymaker
The man they call ‘Money’ rounds off this list in style as only he can. He’s likely the wealthiest boxer of all time with an estimated net worth of $750 million. But let’s talk about his cars. His collection is too long to list but here are some of the highlights. He has 5 Ferraris including an Enzo, 2 Lamborghinis, 2 Bugatti Veyrons, Bentley Mulsanne (got torque?), Porsche 911 Turbo S, Maserati GranTurismo, McLaren MP4-12C, Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita, and a Mercedes Benz SLS AMG.
The chances are, Mayweather will add more to his collection in the coming years, but we’re kind of hoping he opts to drop the white theme. Almost every car in his collection is pure white. Must be a nightmare keeping them all clean.
And there you have it. Some of the amazing car collections of the most famous pro-athletes in world sport. Honorable mentions go to Conor McGregor who is still adding to his collection, and Dana White who while not an athlete himself has an awesome collection.
