Chevy released its all-new Silverado today, as its kick off to the North American International Auto Show. This new generation features increased cargo volume, greater weight savings and a new selection of engine and transmission options over its predecessors.

The most important aspect of any pickup truck is its bed, and Chevy realizes this. To help make moving stuff more convenient and less troublesome, they’ve expanded the amount of cargo volume by increasing the width across every bed length; have added a higher strength steel floor and more tie-downs to accommodate larger, heavier cargo; and have made improvements to the convenience features offered such as a power tailgate, 120v power outlets and task lighting.

To improve efficiency without sacrificing quality, the Chevy Silverado was designed with new high strength steel and mixed materials that helped trim weight throughout the vehicle. There are six available engine options with the new 5.3L and 6.2L V8’s featuring Dynamic Fuel Management. This technology saves fuel without sacrificing power by optimizing cylinder use. For those that require less displacement, an all-new Duramax 3.0L inline-six turbo diesel is also available. Both the 6.2L and the 3.0L will be paired to a 10-speed automatic furthering the vehicle’s efficiency.

From the outside, the new Silverado looks like what anyone would expect from a modern truck. Although it retains its large proportions, the design team has done a good job at creating a streamline flow around the body to help with aerodynamics. There are 8 trim lines that buyers can choose from, so there is bound to be one that suits each customer’s aesthetic desires. Inside, Chevy has added more passenger room, storage compartments and amenities.

Overall, the new-generation of Silverado trucks should be a strong contender in this segment.
