The Porsche Cayenne has always been a luxury SUV for the niche consumer – one that demands an enthusiast driving experience alongside the practicality of an SUV. Now, entering its third generation, the all-new Cayenne sticks to the same formula and brings with it a refreshed design and new powertrain.
From the front, the Cayenne still remains mostly unchanged – aside from the updated grilles and new three-stage lighting concept headlights. Venturing around back, the design updates become more obvious. The new rear fascia takes design cues from the 911 and Panamera, with end-to-end LED taillights being the centre of attention and providing the SUV with a wider, sportier look. Wheel options will available from 19 to 21 inches, with staggered fitment used to provide more dynamic driving and improved stability.
Currently, only a base and S variant have been announced. In each model, two V6 engines – seen in other VW product lines – will be available with both producing ample power. The base Cayenne will feature a turbocharged V6 producing 340HP and 331lb.-ft. of torque, whereas the S-model will come packing a 2.9L V6 Twin-Turbo producing 440 HP and 406lb.-ft of torque. If one opts for the S, they can expect to rocket to 100km/h in around 5 seconds, depending on the package chosen. Both engines will be mated to a new 8-speed Tiptronic S gearbox and active all-wheel drive that uses Porsche Traction Management to distribute power. Additionally, four off-road modes are available which use locking differentials to deliver optimal traction in any condition.
Other features of the all-new Cayenne include rear-axle steering – as seen in both the 911 and Panamera; optional adaptive air suspension which helps adjust the driving dynamics of the suspension; and optional Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control which increases roll stabilization to deliver a more comfortable and sporty ride. All of this combined with a reduced body weight contributes to an enthusiast-minded driving experience from an SUV.
Inside, technology makes a larger presence than ever before. The Porsche Advanced Cockpit is found at the pinnacle of the interior through which drivers can enter inputs via a 12.3inch full-HD touchscreen. Alongside this, two full-HD 7-inch displays relay other relevant driving information which can be controlled by buttons on the steering wheel. Another notable update is the cargo space which has increased by 100L allowing one to transport more conveniently.
The 2019 Cayenne will be available in summer of 2018 starting at $75,500 for the base model and $92,600 for the S-variant.
