Two years after the debut of the “Coyote” Mustang replacement, Ford announces a 2018 Mustang that comes bearing an updated design, more performance and a suite of technology improvements.
The 2018 Ford Mustang receives an update to both the exterior and interior. To emphasize a more athletic attitude and improve the aerodynamics, the functional and appealing face-lift includes a redesigned hood, grille and full-LED exterior lighting. Around back, the Mustang receives a slight tweak to the LED taillights, making them overall more vibrant. A performance spoiler is optional and will come planted on the deck-lid to enhance the sporty appeal of the Mustang. Dependent on the engine option chosen, dual or quad exhaust outlets will accent the lower part of the rear fascia. Inside the cockpit, a more premium look and feel is created using improved tactile feedback and visual cues such as hand-stitched appointments and the use of aluminum throughout the interior. The most notable update is the transition to a full LCD instrument cluster that displays key driver information in a modern layout. Small, updated details include new seat pattern choices, an updated Mustang badge and new key fob design.
For 2018, Ford has done away with the V6. Under the hood, now lies only the choice between the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder, or the legendary 5.0-liter V8. Ford states that the two engine options both receive a power upgrade so higher horsepower and torque figures can be expected. To handle increased power output, the transmissions have been redesigned. A 6-speed manual as well as a new 10-speed automatic are available with both engine options, the new 10-speed delivering better responsiveness with quicker shifts and optimal performance by better torque management. In conjunction with these updates, Ford has introduced MagneRide damper technology which optimizes vehicle ride and handling to tackle various situations. Paired with upgraded shocks, a new cross-axis joint and an innovative stabilizer bar, handling is bound to be sharp and precise.
The 2018 Ford Mustang is expected to hit North America in fall, 2017.
