What do you get when you mix a happy-go-lucky Miata, a growly Abarth motor, and a sprinkle of Italian flare? The new Fiat 124 Spider Elaborazione Abarth, that’s what!
This Fiat masterpiece had its North American debut today at this year’s New York Auto Show and it sure packs a punch. Under the hood lays a 1.4-litre, turbocharged four-cylinder engine which delivers 160 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft of torque. Buyers can choose between a six-seed automatic or manual, but to get the most of those twisties, we definitely recommend the latter.
The difference between the Elaborazione Abarth and the basic 124 are the unique front and rear fascias, a chrome, quad-tipped exhaust and black side sill. To add to the aggressive exterior, the Elaborazione Abarth also comes equipped with 17-inch Gun Metal aluminum wheels, a roll bar and five paint colours, all delightfully (and appropriately) Italian-themed. They are: Bianco Gelato (White Clear Coat), Rosso Passione (Red Clear Coat), Nero Cinema (Jet Black Metallic), Grigio Argento (Grey Metallic) and tri-coat Bianco Perla (Crystal White Pearl.
Inside, this two-door convertible is just as attractive. The leather-wrapped steering wheel, instrument cluster, parking brake and lower instrument panel all feature red stitching. Black leather/microfibre seats are standard, but should you wish to have all-leather black or black/red leather and Alcantara Recaro seats, those are also available.
The 2017 Fiat 124 Spider will hit North American sales floor this summer.
