Just over a month ago, Toyota decided to kill its young and upcoming Scion brand after 13 years of running. Today, it has been decided that the gorgeous Scion FR-S will be reborn as the Toyota 86.
The Scion FR-S was already called the Toyota 86 everywhere but North America. But now that Scion brand has folded, Toyota has (thankfully) decided to stick with the Toyota 86 rather than call it the Toyota FR-S. In short, it makes things a little bit easier on the world.
The 2017 Toyota 86 will feature LED front headlamps, turn signals and rear tail lights, as well as new front and rear bumpers and a new fender garnish design. The 86’s alloy wheels will also be graced with a new design, and the interior will feature new materials on the seats and door armrest.
For those in love with manual, there will be a gear ratio change in the manual version of the car to improve acceleration, and a small five-horsepower increase. The 86 will also feature Hill Start Assist Control, which will prevent your sturdy chariot from rolling back on steep hills (because everyone how nerve-wracking that can be).
The new and improved Toyota 86 will debut at the New York International Auto Show next week. The new Toyota 86 will be available to purchase this fall.
