Geneva is the best destination for those looking for the hottest cars being released. At Geneva, you have the standard auto manufacturers releasing their latest and greatest, and then you have the more exclusive manufacturers such as Bugatti and Koenigsegg dropping their one-off hypercars for the super-elite. This year, Bugatti revealed the Chiron and Koenigsegg matched that with the production spec Regera. The Regera originally made its debut in concept form last year at the show and received lots of interest.

The Regera comes with the latest technology from Koenigsegg with some of the innovations including “Koenigsegg Direct Drive”, extreme battery technology and in-house developed technologies. Direct Drive is a new patent-pending gear box technology from Koenigsegg that eliminates the weight, complexity and mechanical losses of a traditional gearbox. Eliminating gears helps the Regera achieve extreme acceleration. The extreme battery technology incorporates an 800 volt battery that uses Formula 1 grade technology to improve performance and regenerative capability, and also save weight. This makes the Regera, the first production car to have a 800v battery. The battery provides enough power to accelerate the Regera to 300km/h in just 10.9 seconds and, along with other components such as wheels, brakes and engine components, is made in-house at Koenigsegg which helps to seamlessly integrate the vehicle systems.

The Regera can’t be a hypercar without the performance numbers. Thankfully, the Regera backs itself up by producing a whopping 1500HP and close to 1500lb.-ft. of torque. All this power propels the Regera to 100km/h in 2.8seconds and up to 400km/h in 20 seconds.

Some noteworthy and rather cool features in the Regera include something called “AutoSkin”. Although this sounds like some self-healing body technology, unfortunately its not. The function opens all compartments around the vehicle including the doors, hood, and storage compartment. However, it’s more of a feature to merely show off the vehicle. Other amenities include a front facing camera and proximity sensors to improve the “parkability” of the Regera. Inside, the vehicle gets AppleCar Play standard along with induction charging, nothing we haven’t seen in normal production cars before. The seats also feature heating and electrical-memory function adding to the driving experience.

Overall, the Regera is one additional model for Koenigsegg to expand its model line. Pricing is expected to come in around 2 million dollars.
