BMW Motorrad Canada and Purebreed Cycles have unveiled “The Brooklyn Project” at Motorcycle Shows across the country. These 40 custom café racers are based on the BMW S1000R roadster and while all of the 40 bikes have the same mechanical underpinnings, each one is catered to the rider’s individual taste and requirements, making each one of them unique.

The Brooklyn Project took the technological advances from the 2016 BMW S1000R and gave it a retro-inspired, café racer treatment, turning it into a sweet-looking two-wheeler. You get the best of both worlds: the reliable, modern engineering of the S1000R with the classic look of a café-style motorcycle.

The brainchild of this creation is Quebec-based custom bike building Guillaume Brochu, who has built more than 40 bikes since opening back in 2012. Most recently, Brochu has set his sights on a new project which aims to bring the ideal performance bike for the modern gentleman that also keeps his individuality in comfort and style in mind.

This 380 lbs. motorcycle can pump out 175 horsepower, which is 15 more horsepower than the original BMW S1000R. This is thanks to new engine mapping, an optimized fuel injection as well as the addition of an aluminum racing radiator and oil cooler with a full Arrow Competition titanium exhaust system.

All of the bike’s stock technology including race ABS brakes, electronic DDC suspension system, and selectable riding modes was retained.

Some more customizations include the LED headlight, taillight and indicators in the handlebars, bar end mirrors, custom CNC gas cap and brake fluid reservoir and an aluminum sprocket cover.
