Mini’s all new Clubman is aimed at furthering the progression of the brand into the premium compact segment. The Mini Clubman All4 has a redeveloped All Wheel Drive system to improve handling and driving dynamics. It will be offered in two variants- a Cooper and Cooper S.
The Mini Clubman Cooper comes with a 1.5liter 3-cylinder engine producing 134HP and 162ft.-lbs of torque, propelling this little car to 100km/h in about 9.6 seconds. Transmission options include a standard 6-speed manual or an all new 8 speed automatic- “Steptronic”. The Mini Clubman Cooper S comes with a more performance oriented turbocharged 2 liter that has 189 HP and 207ft.-lbs of torque. The S features the same transmission options, however, gets to 100km/h in a little less than 7 seconds. It is notable that the Mini Clubman All4 is about 0.2 seconds quicker than its front wheel drive sibling.
The new All4 system in the Mini Clubman includes a variety of technologies to improve the overall driving experience. Dynamic Stability Control defaults all power to the front wheels which reduces the loss of torque in powering the rear axle by up to 30 percent. The system can deliver power to wheels in need of traction which is done by distributing torque by through braking on individual wheels. The system also calculates the power distribution between the front and rear axles. Other features of the system include ABS, Electronic Brakeforce Distribution, Cornering Brake Control and Dynamic Traction Control Mode to help control wheel slippage in tough terrain (i.e. Snow or Sand).
The Mini Clubman All4 Cooper and Cooper S will go on sale in April at MSRP of $26,990 and $29,990, respectively.
