It is no doubt that Toyota is moving in a more bold direction with its styling department. Evident from the minor updates made to the Camry, to a practically fully redesigned Lexus lineup, its next revamp occurs with the Prius. At first glance, the Prius looks like a mix and match of abstract edges, lines and shapes.

The most controversial part of the Prius is its design. Toyota was aiming for something bold and fresh and that’s what they achieved with this generation. Looking more futuristic than ever before, the new design serves a greater function than just eye appeal. The body is structured to help improve aerodynamics and boost fuel economy of the Prius. Additionally, the body and wheelbase are longer, lower and wider to provide more interior space and better handling.

Like previous generations, the Prius hybrid comes both with an electrical motor and engine. The new 1.8 Liter 4-cylinder achieves greater fuel economy by increasing thermal-efficiency by up to 40%. Batteries are flatter and thinner, and stowed under the rear seat to improve cargo space. Through weight savings, aerodynamics, and more finely tuned engine components, the 2016 Prius manages to produce a combined 52MPG.

While contributing to the environment, the Prius also aims keeps its occupants safe. A number of safety features include a higher strength cabin and Toyota Safety Sense P- a full suite of driver assistance packages meant to increase the safety of the driver and other road users. Functions include a Pre-collision System (PCS) with Pedestrian Detection (PD), Lane Departure Alert (LDA) with Steering Assist (SA), Automatic High-beams (AHB) and Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) which works in stop and go traffic.
