General Motors has unveiled their new 2017 Acadia at this year’s North American International Auto Show in Detroit, promising to deliver both versatility and refinement.
This Crossover SUV competes with the likes of the Honda Pilot, Ford Explorer, Toyota Highlander and Jeep Grand Cherokee. It is available in three trims: the GMC Acadia, the Acadia All-Terrain and Acadia Denali and depending on the model, it can fit five, six, or even seven people.
The Acadia features a chrome-trimmed grille, flared wheel arches and a wraparound rear side windows with dark D-pillars. The HID lamps on the Denali and the halogen projection headlights on the other models all wrap around the corners of the vehicle. The Denali also has six-spoke heels, chrome-accented door handles and a chrome lower fascia.
Under the 2017 Acadia’s hood lies a 2.5-litre standard engine, mated to a Hydra-Matic 6T50 six-speed automatic, which pumps out about 194 horsepower. Optional on the Acadia is a 3.6-litre V-6 engine with a Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed auto, with an output of about 310 ponies. Front-wheel drive is standard with the Acadia, with the option of an all-wheel drive. Front-wheel drive offers four driving modes: Normal (2×4), Snow, Sport and Trailer/Tow, while the AWD system offers Normal (2×4 drive), Sport, Off-Road and Trailer/Tow modes.
The 2017 Acadia has shed serious pounds compared to its predecessor. The 2016 model has a total curb weight of 4656 lbs, while the 2017 model has 3956 lbs – a total of 700 lbs. lost. You can chalk that up to the body structure, which incorporates press-hardened, high-strength steels – this allowed the implementation of thinner components in some areas, meaning a lighter vehicle.
This year’s Acadia comes with a slew of safety features to protect passengers and everyone around them. Depending on the model, they include a Surround Vision camera, Forward Automatic Braking, Safety Alert Seat, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert just to name a few.
To make staying connected as easy and safe as possible, the Acadia is equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. When you purchase an Acadia, you will also have a three-month/three- gigabyte trail of OnStar 4G LTE wi-Fi hotspot to stay connected anywhere you go.
