Last week, some details were released about the ATS-V ahead of its official debut, but that was not the full story. Since the ATS’ official introduction in 2012, I have admired its unique styling and of course the ability to get one with a manual transmission. Now, Cadillac has delivered on something even more exciting, the Cadillac ATS-V is now official. At first glance it may not look like a threat BMW M3, or M4, but with 455 horsepower, a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds, and a top speed of 297 km/h—BMW should be wary.

The ATS-V will be available in both a coupe and a sedan, and will boast a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre V6, with around 455 horsepower, and 445 pound-feet of torque fed to the rear wheels. Transmissions available are GM’s wonderful eight-speed automatic, or (the one I am most excited for) a six-speed manual equipped with Active Rev Match for those that lack the ability to heal and toe. An official final curb weight has yet to be released but it should be somewhere around 3,700 pounds, this includes the standard carbon fiber hood.

If you think Cadillac was done there, it gets better. Cadillac has confirmed the chassis has been revamped with an increase in stiffness of 25 percent, with a new V-brace straddling the engine. At every corner is GM’s third generation Magnetic Ride Control which adjusts to the road conditions in milliseconds—this is 40 percent faster than the last generation system. Joining the Magnetic Ride Control is a performance traction management system. Brakes are 14.5-inch rotors up front with a six piston Brembo caliper; and 13.3-inches in the rear paired with a four piston Brembo caliper. Finished off by 18 or 19 inch forged alloys paired with sticky Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Options include a Carbon Fibre pack with a new rear spoiler, front splitter, and vents. The Track Package will add the Corvette’s Performance Data Recorder, a smaller battery, no floor mats, and the removal of the tire inflator will shed around 30 pounds. Recaros are mounted up front and there is the normal assortment of multimedia features including Cadillac’s CUE system. Sales are set to begin this spring, but prices have not released yet. We cannot wait to get our hands on one this coming spring.
