Once again, another supercar is dead on the streets of Toronto. If you remember that Ferrari F40 that was hit by a Dodge Dart at an intersection, and now this Porsche 918 Spyder engulfing into flames at an Esso Gas station, it would be fair to assume Toronto may not have the best luck when it comes to not killing exotic cars.
After hearing about the LaFerrari going up in flames, it was not long until a Porsche 918 Spyder faced the same fate. Nowadays, if your car is not at risk of spontaneously combusting, it’s not much of a supercar.
Luckily there were not any reported injuries, and as far as we know the gas station did not blow up into a Grand Theft Auto-like explosion. It is possible that the fueling system associated with the gas station could have sparked the fire, rather than the car itself. However, since we know of similar cases of Porsche GT3RS’ burning up, it would seem fitting for this Porsche to be predisposed to a fiery death.
It is sad to see the destruction of such a beautiful car, I could not imagine how the owner (Dragon’s Den’s Michael Wekerle) feels right about now.
