Behold, Lexus’ answer to the BMW X1 and Benz GLA.
Will have Lexus’ first turbocharged engine.
Lexus’ entry into the compact SUV market with the all-new NX will be compared to the likes of the BMW X1 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA. Based off the LF-NX Concept and sharing much of the design cues seen on the all-new IS sedan, the NX looks to maintain its luxuriousness while keeping a sporty look.
The biggest new is that underneath this NX’s hood will be first Lexus to use a turbocharged engine. Yes, the first. The 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder will be found in both the NX 200t and NX 200t F Sport. There will also be an NX 300h, and if Lexus plans on staying true to their nomenclature, we should expect the use of the same engine that is in the Lexus ES300. Lexus has not revealed too much when it comes to the powertrain, so we will have to wait until the NX makes its Beijing debut.
As for the appearance of the NX, the initial reactions from the DoubleClutch team have generally been in favour for the IS-flavoured design cues. With sharp angles, and the front dominated by the brand’s new spindle shaped grille, Lexus hopes to give the NX the same refined look that the IS maintains. LED accenting in the front and LED taillights in the rear will also accompany the NX while it rolls on either 17-inch or 18-inch wheels—depending on the customer’s preference. As for the interior, it follows the simple yet elegant theme. Long, unbroken stretches of what we think looks like leather on the dash perfected with strips of wood or metal—again depending on customer’s preference. The black interior with red seats must belong to the F Sport model which will use different bucket seats for the front passengers.
