After a brief hiatus that seemed more like an eternity, the Ram 1500 TRX and its supercharged V8 officially returns for 2027. Come on, you saw this coming from a mile away.
The TRX bowed out in 2024 to make way for the refreshed Ram RHO and its “Hurricane” twin-turbo inline-six. Stellantis’ current leadership writing the “wrongs” of its predecessors means a well-documented return of the Hemi, but this time around, simply bringing back the TRX and calling it a day wasn’t going to cut it. So naturally, they gave it more power.

As before, the 2027 Ram TRX is powered the supercharged 6.2-litre version of the Hemi V8, but receives some revisions since it was last deployed in a half-ton Ram. Its brains have been recalibrated to play nice with the updated Ram’s brains, and there’s new engine management software on board to go along with a tweaked cooling system. All told, the TRX now pumps out 777 horsepower and 680 pound-feet of torque. Notably, Ram says the 2027 TRX knocks off a zero-to-60 mph run in 3.5 seconds — that’s a few tenths faster than the 2021 TRX, and a full second faster than the RHO.
The supercharged Hemi is paired to an eight-speed automatic and Ram’s full-time selectable four-wheel-drive setup, with a TRX-specific 2.64:1 transfer case so you can guide this brute through tight spots with more precision. Also TRX-specific is the exhaust, natch, with an X-pipe and finished with two five-inch double-wall black tips. It sounds appropriately gnarly.

The rest of the 2027 TRX is something of a mash-up between the 2021-2024 truck and the RHO. It rides on 35-inch all-terrain tires and 18-inch wheels — beadlock-capable wheels are optional — kept glued to the ground via a familiar independent front suspension design with active damping and lots of aluminum bits. Both the TRX and RHO have the same suspension travel specs — 13 inches from full droop to full compression up front, and 14 inches out back — but the TRX gets tweaked spring and damper rates, because V8. Both trucks use the same Dana 60 rear axle and locking rear diff setup, the same five-link coil setup, the same Bilstein Blackhawk e2 dampers — you get it.
The 2027 TRX sure looks appropriately tough, blending the facelifted Ram’s new headlights and tail lights with muscled-up fenders and lots of satin black accents to much roided-out success. Ram is also offering early-enough buyers a Bloodshot Night Edition package that adds wild graphics — some of which are hand-painted — as well as red-accented badges, a TRX badge on the centre console encased in glass, carbon fibre accents with splashes of red woven in, and the beadlock-capable wheels are standard.

Inside, Ram brings the TRX into 2027 with the same interior layout as the rest of the lineup, anchored by a 14.5-inch touchscreen running Uconnect 5. That works with a customizable 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a full-colour heads-up display. Balancing out the screens is a healthy array of physical switchgear throughout, including a clearly labelled launch control button on the steering wheel. Convenient!
The rest of the 2027 TRX’s interior is familiar if you’ve spent any time in a new Ram. You get bells-and-whistles like wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, massage seats, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and Ram’s full suite of active safety and driver assists to go along with the macho TRX dress-up. That includes, but is not limited to, TRX logos everywhere, contrast red stitching and trim, and real carbon fibre and metal accents.
Ram says the 2027 TRX is coming in the “second half” of this year; pricing will be announced sometime between now and then. Better get on that wait list.
