Let’s be honest: Mercedes-Benz didn’t exactly put their best foot forward with their EQ lineup. Fortunately, the next evolution of their EV strategy looks far more intriguing. Hang on — is “intriguing” really the best way to describe this Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept?
Mercedes-Benz is pitching this concept as a fully electric successor to the — deep breath — 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E-Performance 4-Door Coupe. We can see why; it shares a flowing, low-slung fastback roofline with a predecessor, while the front and rear fascias almost come across as a modern interpretation of the C111 from back in the day. The bright orange paint is a dead giveaway, too. Either way, it’s a significant departure from the bulbous EQ lineup, and we’re here absolutely here for it.
The GT XX concept takes a significant departure from the EQ lineup inside, too. It’s far more minimalist — a refreshing change from the screen-dominated layout — and bits like the yoke steering wheel and carbon fibre bucket seats draw heavy inspiration from Mercedes’ F1 cars.
Underneath it all, Mercedes-Benz says the GT XX is underpinned by their new AMG.EA platform architecture. It features three electric motors and an 800-volt charging architecture. Mercedes is staying tight-lipped on range and charging, but they’re going straight for the Taycan Turbo GT’s jugular, with 1,341 horsepower on tap in its most potent application.
Mercedes-Benz says we can expect the GT XX enter production sometime next year. We say it can’t come soon enough.
