This 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally, finished in Grabber Yellow, feels like the Guy Fieri of EVs, frosted tips and all. It’s wild, obnoxious, kind of ridiculous, but somehow endearing. When everything feels accountant-approved and copy-and-pasted, the Mach-E Rally is the answer to a question nobody asked, but Ford answered it anyway. Yee-haw!
What’s so special about the Mach-E Rally?
Introduced for the 2024 model year, Mach-E Rally starts with the already very good GT Performance trim, adding a whole ‘lotta sauce in the looks department. Most striking is the highlighter yellow paint with textured black stripes running down the centre of the hood. You can spot this thing from a mile away, garnering tons of lingering looks from onlookers of all ages—not something I can say I’ve ever experienced in any other EV. The white, 19-inch rally car-style wheels look fantastic and are incredibly unique for a production car, and Focus RS-inspired swan-neck rear wing is the best kind of ridiculous. There’s a big Mach-E Rally decal down the side along with slightly restyled front and rear bumpers, the most notable changes being the rally car-style fog lights in the faux grille up front. Honestly, it’s all pretty darn cool.
Interior tech, comfort, and practicality
Inside, the Mach-E Rally more prototypical EV. As with lesser trims, the giant 15.5-inch infotainment touchscreen and slim 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster dominate the cabin. It feels spacious and tidy overall, and looks modern especially with the soundbar-inspired fabric trim running across the dash. The centre console offers loads of space for all your goods, and the white accents on the dash, seat fabric, and seat backs remind you you’re driving something unique. The seats themselves are comfortable and offer a great amount of bolstering to keep you in place as you pretend to be Travis Pastrana; as with the regular Mach-E, the grippy suede-like material keeps you extra glued in place. All the main touch points feel solid and the displays are easy to read, but the graphics seem slightly uninspiring.
You can’t have an EV without tech. The Mach-E delivers with Ford’s Sync 4 operating system featuring crisp and clean graphics, easy-to-use built-in navigation, and mostly snappy performance outside of a few slow responses when first booting up. The Bang & Olufsen sound system is party-ready if a little to bright for my tastes, and Ford’s excellent BlueCruise hands-free driving system is present. I always find myself using this rather frequently behind the wheel of a Ford; it’s one of the best systems out there.
How does the Mustang Mach-E Rally drive?
The Mach-E Rally uses the same extended-range 91 kWh battery pack as the GT Performance, with the same ho-hum 150 kWh charge rate. Range isn’t a strong suit of the Mach-E in general, and the Rally tweaks strip cuts about 20 km of range from the GT’s 360-kilometre rating.
What doesn’t change is the eagerness to get moving, especially once you unleash all 480 horsepower and 634 lb-ft of torque. The Mach-E Rally surges forward like a locomotive, providing you all the thrust you could reasonably ask for, though not quite neck-snapping if you’re already at highway speeds. With all-wheel-drive and Michelin CrossClimate 2 tires specific to the Mach-E Rally, it’s easy to keep it pointed and confidently cut through inclement weather every time. Along with the tires, a revised Magneride suspension with a rally mode, a matching drive mode, and aluminum skid plates front and rear round out the changes. The Mach-E Rally isn’t just for show, but also offers the go to conquer less-than-ideal terrain—or have a boatload of fun—at extra judicious speeds. Let’s be honest: who isn’t going to rally this thing?
Final thoughts
But who is that person? I’m not sure who, exactly, is looking for an electric off-roader, overlander, or rally car—whatever you want to call it. And at $77,745 as-tested, you probably wouldn’t want to scratch up the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally with rocks and branches. Then again, if people would willingly drive around in a Cybertruck, the 2025 Ford Mustang Mach-E Rally certainly has its place. It may be an answer to a question nobody really asked, but I’m glad Ford still knows how to have fun.
