Mercedes-Benz engineers are in the hot-seat thanks to their fellow German competitors putting out bold and fresh M3 and M4 models. Leaked information and photos provided us with some details on their 2016 C63 AMG response. The leaked photo below teases us with an updated front-end that sports the two slant front grill, some more meshed air dams and strong body lines. These features come together for a tough looking nose, expected to be applied to sedan, coupe and convertible models; all of which will sit a bit lower than non-AMG counterparts adding further to the muscular aura.

Interior photos remind us of the C63’s purpose as a performance sedan. The instrument panel rocks the industry favourite material, carbon fibre, as a back-drop. The thick-body three spoke steering wheel is armoured with convenience buttons reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz luxury, while the flat bottom shape pays homage to the AMG aspect. Tucked just behind the wheel, a pair of paddle shifters peek out begging to be played with. The rest of the cockpit echoes similar sentiments of the form and function balance such as the seats, which are adorned with plush leather yet are designed for full body support.

The aforementioned carbon-fibre inserts may be misleading as this is by no means a light machine. However, a little extra weight is no reason for concern, the C63 AMG will not fall short in the power department. The source is planned to be a 4.0Litre twin-turbo V-shaped eight cylinder to output a mean 480 horsepower and a tuned-up 510 horsepower in the ‘GT’ variant. For both models it all goes to the rear wheels via a seven-speed automatic alluded to by the paddle shifters. A coveted six-speed manual is still a possibility, but the dual-clutch transmission has been written off. No conclusions can be drawn from a couple pictures and bits of information, nonetheless the 2016 C63 AMG is on its way to fulfilling its automotive purpose.
