Two years after the Maybach name was killed off by Mercedes-Benz, the German automaker has decided to revamp its flagship S-Class by introducing the 2016 Mercedes-Maybach S600. The luxurious vehicle will be the most lavish S-Class in history and will naturally go up against the Rolls-Royce Phantom, and Bentley’s Mulsanne.

The S600 will also become the most expensive vehicle in the S-Class lineup when it goes on sale late next year. Pricing is expected to be higher than $600,000 USD. A very hefty pricetag but what the S600 promises to deliver hyper luxury. During its reveal at the LA Auto Show, it was confirmed that Mercedes will use the name Maybach to represent all future ultra-luxurious cars, just as AMG represents its hyper-performance cars.

With a wheelbase of 5453mm, the S600 will add 200mm to the wheelbase of the pre-existing long wheelbase S-Class. In total it measures 186mm longer than an Audi A8, 241mm longer than the BMW 7 Series, and 54mm longer than the Rolls-Royce Ghost. This car has borderline limousine status based on length; But that is the beauty of it. The backseats are the place to be.

Inside, reclining hand-stitched rear seats that recline back to almost 45 degrees, and the unique fragrance filtered through the cabin are standard. There are optional flutes for champage, heated and cooled drink holders, a panoramic sunroof, a Designo leather headliner, a premium Burmester 3D stereo, and even pop-up tables among a plethora of extravagent features. There is even an option for a hot-rock style massage built into the seats if you have had a long day at the office.

The S600 will also be the quietest car in the world in terms of road and wind noise, with a drag co-efficient of 0.26. Mercedes have also introduced a voice-amplification feature that allows front and rear seat occupants to converse without having to raise their voices. No longer will you have to shout for your driver to take the next left, or to add extra whip cream to your venti-sized Starbucks Frappuccino.

Under the hood will sleep a 6.0-litre V12 that will produce 522 horsepower and a whopping 612 lb-fts of torque available from 1900rpm. The extra torque will be needed to get this limo rolling. Paired with a seven-speed automatic transmission, fuel consumption will be rated at 11.7L/100km combined. This is exceptional for an engine with three-times the amount of cylinders found in a CLA.
