After 40 years and 30 million units sold VW has something to be proud of with their best selling model.
Volkswagen is celebrating 40 years since the first Golf came off the assembly line. Since March 29, 1974, when the first Golf was born, it has gone through seven generations and has sold over 30 million units during the four decades.
The seventh generation hot hatch will have three different variants, the GTI, GTD and GTE. The new Golf TDI BlueMotion consumes 3.2 litres per 100 km, which is equivalent to 85 g/km of CO2. The all-electric Golf will have a range of about 190 kilometres and is already available for purchase. The new Golf GTE will be launched in the fall and the plug-in hybrid drive system can get a fuel consumption of 1.5 litres per 100 km. In the all-electric mode, the GTE can be driven for 50 kilometres.
The Golf is the most successful VW model ever built.
