S2000 Successor Being "seriously considered"Honda supposedly working on S2000 successor to compete with the Toyota 86 (Subaru BRZ/Scion FR-S)
GTChannel recently reported that Honda is seriously mulling a revivial of its small, quick and light vehicle line. The series that started with the S600 and saw the S2000 in its last iteration could be continued with a “S1500″ very soon.
Potential rendering of the “S1500″ taking design cues from the S600.
Sources from within the Japanese automaker reported that the “S1500″ could be even smaller than the Mazda MX-5 and would feature either a 1.3 liter or a 1.5 liter inline 4 cylinder engine with Honda’s infamous i-VTEC system. It’s expected to put out about 132 horsepower and weigh in at around 900 Kg; quite the punch for such a small car. It’s most definitely going to be a rear-wheel drive and come with a classic 5 speed manual gearbox. GTChannel goes on to say that it’s expected to be priced around $20,000 (US) and that it may come with a mid-engine layout.
The infamous Scion FR-S developed by Toyota & Subaru.
It seems Honda’s “S1500” would be the answer to the Toyota/Subaru’s recent development the 86 (Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ) which has seen great sales and is revered as one of the best performing cars in that segment. Looking at the stats above however, all I can say is; Toyota & Subaru, look out!
