New Onstar Features Take the Smartphone Further Named the RemoteLink Key Fob Services, the app will allow users to perform all the the functions that the car’s key fob does, all from convenience of a smartphone.
In the world of rapidly evolving mobile technology, it seems there is yet another thing your smartphone can do for you. As an improvement of its OnStar technology, General Motors has announced that they will be expanding the capabilities of the RemoteLink Mobile App on the majority of their 2014 model year Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles.
Named the RemoteLink Key Fob Services, the app will allow users to perform all the the functions that the car’s key fob does (including locking and unlocking doors, and remote starting for vehicles properly equipped) all from convenience of a smartphone.
The key fob services are being offered free for the next five years (from the vehicle’s delivery date), but as always the full range of RemoteLink features will only be available through a trial or paid subscription. This premium suite includes the ability to contact a live adviser, turn-by-turn directions, and remote monitoring of the vehicle’s diagnostic systems.
