Live from the 2012 Grand Prix of Mosport
Canadian Tire Motorsports Park is a 750-acre multi-purpose track situated in Bowmanville, Ontario, approximately one hour east of Toronto.
Having attended the Petite LeMans at Road Atlanta, I can safely say that while lacking the scope and size of the American counterpart, Mosport does provide a unique experience that wasn’t present in Atlanta.
Namely, Canadians tend to prefer the concept of camping to the RV’ing nature of the American event. Waking up at 8 am to the sound of prototypes going around the track was simply sublime. Running out of hot water in the morning… not so much.
Granted today is the first real race day with practice taking place, but the overall track perception is a bit more low key and relaxed. It provides more of an opportunity to get up close and personal with the cars, teams and drivers.
Brian Makse, is the only Canadian racing in the MX5 series, sponsored by Sympatico and Sharp Magazine. At some point a car cannot have any more GoPro cameras installed; Brian’s car is pushing those limits.
ALMS cars are here in full force, with the Patron 458 Ferraris stealing the spotlight from a pure visual standpoint. Their makeshift garage is in pristine condition and looks like a magazine shoot. Spotless.
Stay tuned for more coverage as the weekend events continue to unfold.
