Just in time for the upcoming Paris Motor Show Bentley is ready to reveal a ‘Speed’ variant to its top-of-the-line Mulsanne model. As attention-grabbing as Bentley’s looks are, the torque on this sedan may prove to be its brightest star. 811 pound-feet of torque should do a great job of sticking you to the plush leather seats despite having to move the 14 bull hides used on the interior. The Mulsanne’s high torque allows it to surpass the ranks of muscle cars and tread in super-car territory. Nonetheless, the factor of weight and the likewise work to balance it out.

The Mulsanne Speed boasts an extra 25 horsepower bringing it to about 530hp — that grunt, and the 811 pound-feet of torque from as low as 1750 rpm, is thanks to Bentley’s twin turbo V8. The capacity of that block being 6.75L or as the engine bay eloquently denotes ‘Six and three quarters’. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission the luxury sedan does 0-96km/h in 4.8 seconds and has a maximum speed at 305km/h. So what do you haul with this torque toy? Maybe a gas station to keep the big-boy going? Bentley says no, their cylinder deactivation system promises a simulated V4 setup while cruising.

The interior of the Bentley Mulsanne Speed is a neat blend of classical luxury with modern technology. The distinct combination of straight lines and clean curves is a seamless extension of the exterior design. Moreover, the complexity of the interior is reminiscent of the 150 skilled man hours put into its manufacturing. The overall stance of the car is significantly influenced by its 21 inch wheels and blacked-out grilles. Just as the Muslanne started to seem all about the looks Bentley has added a driver focussed S mode. This mode activates an adjustable air suspension, keeps the two turbos spooled up, and the revs at 2000rpm and higher, making this a Bentley with a purpose.
