First Look: 2019 BMW 3-Series

The 2019 3-Series is completely redesigned with a whole new suite of technological innovation.

BMW unveiled its completely redesigned 3-Series today at the Paris Motor Show. After 40 years of existence, the 3-Series continues to remain the heart and soul of the brand. The 7th generation comes packed with superior performance, luxury and technology over its predecessor.Fabian Kirchbauer Photography

Initially, two models will land in 2019. These include the 330i xDrive and M340i xDrive each with a revised powerplant. One can expect the 330i to produce 255HP and 295 lb-ft of torque from a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder. This powertrain will be paired to an 8-Speed automatic transmission. The M340i will produce 382HP and 369 lb-ft of torque from an all-new turbocharged inline-6. As of yet, there has been no news on the transmission options for the M340i.Fabian Kirchbauer Photography

Weight savings have been found throughout the vehicle contributing to improved the driving dynamics. As result of more power and greater weight savings, the M340i xDrive can reach 100 km/h in a remarkable 4.2 seconds. Notably, the 3-Series will retain a rear-wheel drive biased xDrive system, a perfect 50/50 weight distribution, and a redesigned suspension system to retain the sporty driving characteristics that the vehicle is known for. The M340i will also come with an optional M Sport differential and M Suspension to enhance traction and cornering stability.Fabian Kirchbauer Photography

The exterior of the 2019 BMW 3-Series adopts the new era of BMW design, which originates from the 8-Series. Its new design language creates a futuristic and sporty character. The car not only looks larger, but in fact, has larger proportions thanks to a 1.6 inch longer wheelbase, and 0.6 – 1.7 inch increase in the width – translating into more interior room and a sportier stance. An adaptation of the iconic kidney grilles complements the new, standard Full LED headlights (or optional BMW Laserlights). From the side profile view, a notable difference is a redesigned Hofmeister kink which creates a freestanding glass edge on the rear doors. Around back, new L-shaped taillights identify the transition into the 7th generation. The exterior can be dressed in 12 colours including two new colours – Portimao Blue metallic and Vermont Bronze metallic.Fabian Kirchbauer Photography

The all-new, modern design language carries through inside the 2019 3-Series. A whole new center console design incorporates the iDrive controller as well as buttons to control the driving mode, auto start-stop and other amenities.  The instrument cluster features a new digital screen displaying key driving metrics including an integrated GPS display. A more sophisticated ambient lighting also makes its way into the 3-Series allowing the driver to cast a series of various colours throughout the interior. The infotainment system features an updated version of iDrive which features a new voice-activated Personal Assistant to allow for more accurate hands-free voice instruction. For the driver, an added bonus is a 70% larger Heads-up Display which relays more information at a glance.

The 2019 BMW 3-Series adopts a whole new design language and includes a new powerplant. Along side this, it embraces the digital age with a whole new suite of technological innovations.
