Chevy Cruze Recall Due To Potential Brake Issues

Recall Affects 293k Chevrolet Vehicles GM has reported 27 crashes but no injuries so far, and the issues with brakes can apparently be resolved with the installation I a new power brake vacuum pipe.

General Motors is preparing to recall about 293,000 Chevrolet Cruze models, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press. An issue with the power-assisted brakes on 2011 and 2012 model year Cruze models equipped with the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and the six-speed automatic transmission (a combination that does not include the Cruze Eco), can cause brake boosters to fail, making it harder for drivers to stop, requiring more braking effort than expected.

GM has reported 27 crashes but no injuries so far, and the issues with brakes can apparently be resolved with the installation I a new power brake vacuum pipe. However, GM has not yet announced the recall, and there appears to be no official notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website at this time, but a quick check of customer complaints reveals plenty of instances where Cruze drivers lost braking power.
