It’s out – BMW’s uber cool new sports car. Gorgeous styling. 362 Hp and 420 lb-ft of tourque. 0-62 MPH in 4.4 seconds. 94 MPG. Wait- WHAT?
Yea, you read it right.
94 Miles Per Gallon. That’s what you can do with BWM’s new i8 (formerly concept vehicle and Tom Cruise’s car of choice in Mission Impossible) hybrid sports coupe, to be released next year.
The production i8 as reaveled at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show.
The i8 will be released to our neighbours in the south at just $135,700 US. A rather reasonable number considering the performance, technology and make of the car. The radically styled coupe will come with a TwinPower Turbo, 3-cylinder, 1.5 liter engine producing 231 horsepower, powering the rear wheels. Meanwhile the front wheels will be driven by a 96 kilowatt electric motor putting out 131 horsepower. In essence, this vehicle will harness the power of 362 horses, all while saving the polar bears and the ice-caps.
The design of the car is almost unchanged from the concept and arguably quite good looking! There are several styling cues taken from the concept which highlight the hybrid/electric nature of the car, namely the blue aura in the kidney grills and the front fascia. The i8 has a very slick design and features embedded side-spoiler on both sides of the car which look fantastic!
The i8’s design encorporates the spoilers into it’s side panels.
