BMW Abandoning 1-Series (For Now At Least)The BMW 1-Series platform has given us a number of very competitive, high performance variants. Starting 2014 however, BWM is halting the production and development of the 1-Series.
BMW recently announced that they will not be producing the increasingly popular 1-Series coupe and convertible for 2014. The production of both these models has already been down since August and June for the coupe and convertible, respectively. However, all is not lost! We’ve been seeing some teasers of the BMW 2 Series (which would make sense to be the replacement of the 9 year old platform of the current 1-Series).
Though it’s exciting to see what BMW will bring to fill the shoes of the 1-Series, the baby-beamer fans will still be sad to see it go. The 1-Series has brought us a a number of high performance versions of this awesome car. From the early 135is (the “M3 junior”) with its 320 HP motor (and ridiculous power to weight ratio), amazingly nimble handling, especially when paired with a 6-speed. And who can forget the amazing 1 Series M Coupe! 335-HP and M3 level performance for just $50K!
