Formula One: German Grand Prix Report

Another new winner as Mark Webber finally breaks his duck! In fact he dominated in a fashion that we have never seen from the lad from Down-Under!

It just goes to show what a nice piece of technology the new Red Bull car the RB5 is, designed by Adrian Newey. Taking the pole position and then losing the immediate lead to the Brawn GPB-001 car driven by Ruben “I’m a whiner” Barrachello, Webber motored forward commandingly and even suffered a “drive-thru” penalty but still prevailed in the end and took the checked flag. Following him in 2nd place was British GP winner and teammate Sebastian Vettel in another BR5 Red Bull.

Fernando Alonso’s great drive in the Renault R29 was a highlight of the race and he also recorded the fastest lap of the race on his way to 6th bright behind the Brawns of Button “What have I been smoking” Jensen. That continues to prove that t two-time World Champion is still the best GP driver on the grid once again as he did not have the best car in the field, like the Brawn or Red Bull cars that the top four finishers had. Team mate Nelson Piquet Jr. did not make best use of his accidently bettering of team mate Alonso’s qualifying situation, and finished 14th.

Lewis “humbled finally” Hamilton screwed the pooch on the first lap after making the best start in his McLaren MP4-24but failing to break early enough to make the corner while already in the lead and collided with eventual winner the punctured a tire and finished a lowly 18th after crying to the pits to allow him the retire and go home and play rock star with his girl friend who is one! Maybe the next race will be better old chap. I still eagerly await one race where Hamilton in his McLaren and Jensen in his Brawn battle it out for an entire race leaving everyone else to break wind!

Beloved in America, Sebastian Bourdais, seems to have had his last GP race? Unfortunately he has not proven his worth to the Torro Rosso team and for the next race they will have a major upgrade to the STR4 and finally a double deck diffuser in addition to a new driver. Whoever drives that entry in Hungry will probably be a sensation and that will make poor Sebastian look worse. Sorry, my friend but it is important to have a good car and the one you have is a copy-cat-car (without Newey’s attentions).

Ferrari will abandon F-60 car in favor of getting a head start on the F-2010 machine, as Brawn has taught that lesson to the field so well this year. It helps to find a technical loop hole as well!

A quick look at the politics of F1 reveals these stories briefly….

• Max Mosley to stand down (pants down) finally?
• FIA elections in October.
• Todt and Vatanen to vie for FIA Presidency.

We will follow these as juicier details are or become available. ‘Till next time…
