Top 10 Car Movies for Guys under 35
We’ve all seen the typical rankings for the best car movies of all time. But quite honestly, they are written by people in their 40s who grew up with the classics. Watching those films, for the first time today, by people under 35, isn’t the greatest experience. They’ve aged… horribly.
This list is for the guy under 35, to either agree or argue the rankings. Some may be out of left field, but I’m sure most will agree with me… because I’m always right.
1. The Fast and the Furious
Easily the most quotable movie from the list. Meet any guy and he’ll be able to quote at least 15 lines from the film, no word of a lie. The movie just sticks in your head and in a lot of ways have influenced this generation just like American Graffiti with the previous.
2. Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)
Just try to tell me that you didn’t dream of owning a 1967 Shelby GT500 after watching the movie. Or perhaps, you wanted your own Angelina Jolie. Either way, the film impacted everyone because every car guy would want to kill/physically harm a car thief, especially if they were taking your car. But you like Memphis and his crew and I hate the filmmakers for that.
3. Cars
Just what is a cartoon doing on that list? Besides the brilliant storyline, fantastic characters and great animation? Cars might be one of the best car movies of all time. Sure it’s not real, but they had Michael Schumacher as a Ferrari F430 in it! Mad street cred for that.
4. Casino Royale
Why is Casino Royale on the list? That DBS was barely in the movie but the scene where Bond flips it over 7 times? Legendary. Plus Bond rocks and gets a spot just for that. I’ll be the first to admit I have a man crush on him.
5. Bad Boys 2
There’s an ongoing debate about the Ferrari used in the film. After extensive research I found out that it was marketed as a 575M, but was in fact a 550. Also the exhaust was dubbed in from a 355. Either way, that car + the highway scene = Instant top 10 ranking.
6. The Rock
Why is The Rock on the list? The yellow 355 / Hummer scene of course. One scene, sure… but it was an awesome scene. Ever see a 355 do anything like that? I sure haven’t.
7. Death Proof
Sure it was slightly overhyped, but I think it’s deserving of a spot due to the coolness factor. Many movies like it don’t exist any more and despite the retro feel, you can tell it was recently made.
8. Death Race (2008)
Did you know that the entire movie was basically filmed in a warehouse in Montreal? I thought that was pretty cool. Death Race is a fantastic car movie despite them not being typical cars. Any movie with that level of gore, explosions and action deserves a top 10 ranking.
9. Ronin
An older film, but it has what I consider the greatest chase scene of all time. It’s a good movie too and well worth watching if you haven’t. I don’t want to spoil this one for you, just go see it.
10. Transformers
Sure it’s filled with robots, but they are cars most of the time. Non-stop action, giant robots, car chases, Megan Fox, how can it not be on the list?
