Radical Idea for Formula One
Here’s a radical idea! Let the FIA start a F1-type series for the 45 to 60 million pounds budget and call it F-ZERO, as it could become the true lead-in-to F-One. Let any and all of the new fledging constructors and entrants race in this new support series at the same venues and on the same weekends as F1 does, two series for the paying customers to enjoy.
If a team drops out of F1, then the leading or Championship team from this series F0 then enters in its place. This support series would mimic the entire sense of true F1 racing and would allow these new teams a chance to see how well they compare, especially at the lower mandated budget. These new rookie teams would virtually earn their place in F1 before the eyes of all involved.
Rules would mandate that no staff can be recruited from this series until that team is also on the same playing ground as the BIG show, thusly F1. This way, the strongest teams would show their stuff and eventually graduate to the BIG show!
Maybe even the bottom rung of the BIG show teams would underperform and be sent “back to the minors” so to speak in American terms. If Force India or Torro Rosso or Manor or Campos after the first season do so poorly that the following season they are sent into F0.
Maybe there should even be a financial incentive in place to move or exchange teams from one series to the other depending on how successful or financially able they are. Under performing teams would be sent into F0 until they prove that they can compete at that F1 level!
Maybe there should be one engine, that from Cosworth. Or better yet, other newer engine suppliers, such as Judd – Ilmor – Zytek, could brush-up their participation by homologating their engines here in F0 for their first season and then they too can be infused into the BIG show from their second season on. The value of their equipment can then be realized for interest by other major teams in F1. Deals can be done!
This of course would mean sharing the facilities with the BIG show, but the added value of F1 PLUS + would be worth it. It’s like TWO F1 racing series for the price of one ticket to enter for the F1 fan. TV packages would be written to require the additional broadcasting of this series, as the warm-up to the BIG show, F1. The races would be on Saturday and would be half the distance of the Sunday event.
Maybe instead of qualifying, there would be an unpredictable “pea-pick” at every race to mix-up the action and would make for exciting racing each and every time. This would also allow more gifted and talented drivers to be (re)exposed into F1, like G. Pantano, J. Villeneuve, V. Luizzi, A. Davis, (fill-in-your-favorite-driver),V. Rossi, M. Andretti, G. Rahal, S. Speed, N. Karthikeyan & Danica P., among many others .
Chassis and engines from the likes of Lola, Pro Drive, Lotus, Brabham, Surtees, Superfund, Gurney, Audi, Dome, Porsche, Mygale, VW, Cadillac, Panoz, Honda, Mazda, Hyundai, Swift and more could possibly come forth to fill the grid!
It is beyond my understanding why so many think that they can compete in F1, when no one has effectively challenged Dallara in F3 yet although many have tried. Mygale, the French constructor seems to be making the best of that challenge so far and I applaud their effort. I can appreciate Dallara’s dominance as they continuously work hard to maintain that supremacy, but if no one can challenge them in that junior formula, what makes these new flanged entrants think that they can compete in F1!
How about it FIA? Max and Bernie? This taste like $MONEY$ and adds value to your already CASH cow! What a way to GROW F1!
